West Side Launches Hunger Ministry
“And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least
of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’” -- Matthew 25:40
Did you know:
- More than 800 million people in the world go hungry every day.
- Hunger has increased in the United States by 18% since 1997.
- In Michigan, 1 in 10 people use food banks each year, and 50% of those individuals are children and seniors.
- Locally, 5,500 people receive food assistance from Food Gatherers (Washtenaw County’s food bank) every week.
For years, the members of West Side have given generously of their time, resources and prayers in the fight against hunger. But as needs continue to grow both locally and globally, the members of the Outreach: Missions and Social Justice Committee have decided to expand these efforts to create a more comprehensive and ongoing Hunger Ministry. This Ministry will work to increase awareness and provide relief for the problem of hunger in our community and throughout the world through a variety of fund-raising and hunger awareness events, and it will incorporate a social justice component intended to address some of the underlying causes of hunger. Perhaps most importantly, it will offer new opportunities for the members of West Side to get involved in the fight against hunger.

Please check each of these resources as additional Hunger Ministry events are developed and announced throughout the year.
