2005 Crop Walk West Side UMC Participants |
The Washtenaw County/Ann Arbor CROP Walk is a statement by the interfaith community that in Washtenaw County and around the globe, too many of our neighbors are hungry! The first CROP Walk in Ann Arbor was organized by the Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice (ICPJ) in 1975. Every year since then, ICPJ has worked with Church World Service, the Protestant Christian agency that initiated the CROP Walk concept, to coordinate the Walk. The Washtenaw County/Ann Arbor CROP Walk is one of nearly 150 Walks that take place in communities across Michigan, each year raising well over two million dollars.
Twenty-five percent of the money received through CROP Walk is designated in grants to local agencies. Past recipients include St. Andrew's Breakfast Program, Community Action Network, Northfield Human Services, Peace Neighborhood Center, Aid in Milan, and S.O.S. Community Agency. The balance of the donations supports Church World Service's grassroots, hunger-fighting development efforts in more than 80 countries across the globe. If you would like to learn more about the humanitarian and development projects which CROP Walk supports, please visit: http://www.cropwalk.org.
The members of West Side United Methodist Church have a long history of support for CROP Walk.
