The following is an excerpt from the February 2009 newsletter, "The Spirit"
It is with great joy and excitement that I share with you the new vision and mission
statements of West Side United Methodist Church. For over a year the Visioning Team has met regularly to engage in a process of discernment involving prayer, study, input from previous church visioning retreats, readings and discussion. The team then took these mission and vision statements to Church Council and after receiving more input, it was voted for approval.
Vision Statement
We are a people who strive to embody Christ's self-giving love in order to glorify God by making disciples through our ministries and relationships.
Mission Statement
As disciples of Jesus Christ, we at West Side United Methodist Church seek above all to glorify God through the gifts we have been given. We invite all to join us as we joyfully worship God, diligently study God's word, humbly deepen our faith, and actively build relationships so that we may passionately serve all of God's creation.
It is our intention as a Visioning Team to find creative ways to bring awareness of these statements to all who come to our church. Over the coming months we will be offering opportunities through articles, sermon series and classes to understand the implications that these statements have for us. Please make every effort to become familiar with our vision/mission statements and take advantage of opportunities to be a part of their implementation.
I am very excited about what God is doing in our midst and it is my prayer that the Holy Spirit will use the power of these statements to inspire and encourage us to even greater work than we could have ever hoped for or imagined.
