The Habitat 2011 season has wrapped up, and once again the Good News House is continuing to actively work to provide affordable housing for needy families. This year The Good News House completed two refurbishments, rather than building a new home. Based on previous years' experience, it was felt that we can help more families through refurbishment using the same amount of labor and for similar costs to building a single house.
A partner family has been found for one of this year's projects. Meet the Pope Family!
The Good News House is a non-profit group of organizations which have come together to build or refurbish houses for a deserving family in Washtenaw County since 1997. The group is comprised of 19 churches, including West Side United Methodist Church. Since 1997 the group has built twelve houses and rehabbed two additional houses. Because of this, fourteen families are now home owners, families who would otherwise have not been able to purchase a house.
