The people of West Side once again supported the construction of a Habitat for Humanity Good News House. We were very pleased to help build a home for Diana Valencia and her three children with our love, our labor and our financial gifts.
Selecting a family is an important and delicate part of the Habitat building process, and it is handled by the Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley (HHHV) Family Support Committee. Three criteria are used to select families: need for decent affordable housing; ability to meet financial criteria; willingness to partner with Habitat. Partner families must be able to make a $500 down payment, contribute 300 hours per adult family member of "sweat equity" (volunteer time) into their house or another Habitat house, and make payments on a 25-year, interest-free mortgage administered by HHHV.
