Compassion International | Operation Christmas Child | Heifer Project
The children of West Side United Methodist church sponsor a child Deborah Kicowo from Uganda. This is an opportunity for our children to learn about helping a child who lives in the poorest part of the world. Through this program and the donations we send, Deborah will be given the opportunity to receive an education, be healthy, develop self- confidence and social skills, hear the gospel and learn about Jesus.
A member of our church Kristina Rudd had the joy of meeting Deborah she also met Fedeli Authurie who is sponsored by Margie Rudd, Kristina’s mother. Here are pictures of her and the children that are thriving because of the donations that are sent directly to and for them from West Side United Methodist Church.
If you would like to make a contribution to help Deborah, you may do so by sending a check made out to West Side UMC and designate it to Compassion International or you may sponsor your own child by picking up a brochure at West Side. For more information check out their website www.compassion.com or e-mail Mary Marzec at
Once again West
Side United Methodist Church’s Sunday school will be taking part in Operation
Christmas Child, a mission project of Samaritans Purse. It’s
very easy and fun for everyone to do.
1. Get a brochure! (Can be found at West Side)
2. Get a shoebox!
3. Follow the directions.
4. Fill the shoebox with gifts.
5. Bring it to the church.
Brochure gives you the finer points and you will be
hearing more about it in the next few weeks. All shoeboxes
must
be returned to the church no later than
Sunday, November 16. Our goal is 200 boxes. A $5 donation is requested
for shipping and handling. Last year 6 million boxes
were sent around the world. If you would
like to see a video that shows the children receiving their shoebox,
contact Mary Marzec, 663-4164.
Through
the Sunday school offering each week Sept-May
the children of West Side support the
Heifer project.
The Heifer
Project
is an international organization that works
to end world hunger and save the earth by providing
livestock,
as well
as training
to families around the world. The money given
by our children helps buy animals and teaches
families how
to raise
them so
they may become self-reliant for food and
income.
During Lent each year the Sunday school sponsors “Fill
the Ark”. Everyone in the congregation is welcome to take
a little ark and calendar to follow and fill it with loose change.
After we have filled our “arks” the
children then get to vote on the animals
they wish to have
purchased.
If you would like to help our children raise
money for this project you may designate your
donation to
the Heifer
project and give/send
it to:
